Nike “On Air” is the competition organised by which allows independent designers to reappropriate mythical models from the Swoosh brand. One of the flagship models of this program is the Nike Air Max 98 La Mezcla created by Gabrielle Serrano aka Queen Leo.
The artist says he was inspired by the excitement of New York City to create this highly original pair! Culturally diverse, the pair, just like the city, adopts a complex and colourful visual. This Nike Air Max 98 La Mezcla is composed of a base playing on beige and black gradients. This is combined with off-white elements and crackle-print leather in reference to the city’s concrete. The green details evoke the Statue of Liberty and the touch of blue symbolises the Hudson River. As a final signature, the geographical coordinates of NYC: latitude 40° 42′ 51 N and longitude -74° 0′ 21 W, can be found on the inside of the model.
